Our current generation is growing up with bullying, fighting, and sadly even ending the lives of one another. We believe that building character traits in our youth is the social change we need.
Let's face it, character traits are no longer a focus in the everyday life of our youth. Hopes To Reality Org is determined to change this by integrating character and values into the daily lives of young people by teaching character building strategies to role models utilizing a 'train-the-trainer' method.
When you teach character traits and values, you instill in a child the sense of well-being and 'connectedness' to others. One of the best ways to do this is to intentionally integrate learning into everyday activities, and the key is to have fun doing it! Hopes To Reality Org partners with a myriad of organizations and groups with the mission of training character building strategies to anyone who interacts with youth. The strategy is simple: integrate the character traits INTO what they are already teaching.
Let's Take One Scenario: Volunteer Little League Baseball Coaches
Hopes To Reality Org trains the coach to look at the drills and practice skills he/she will be teaching and identify ways to integrate character trait building into practice time.
One such value is Persistence. Most children are not familiar with the word, much less the meaning or the ability to recognize Persistence in themselves or identify it in others. While showing them how to throw the ball, the coach also has the opportunity to discuss the value of Persistence and how it can serve them well. Perhaps the coach can even share a story of a time he/she persisted or when another child did. Each time a character trait is demonstrated, the coach will identify the trait and praise the effort, highlighting it out for everyone!
